Make a bold yet fashionable statement with dresses of all colors, designs and sizes for any occasion.  The designs of dresses have changed frequently over the years, but they have been a mainstay in the fashion world. In order for a woman to choose a dress to wear, a lot of things come into consideration.

The occasion that it’s being worn for plays a major role in the design and style of the dress as well as location, season, environment and just personal choice. Dress can be very long, stretching all the way down to the ankle or stopping just at the upper thigh for shorter versions. Depending on the person wearing the dress or the socially accepted norm, either variety can be worn.

Dresses can be made from a variety of fabrics, ranging from natural materials such as cotton and wool to synthetic materials including polyester and nylon.  As long as the fabric matches the designer’s preference and taste, it can be used in the making of a dress. Occasion plays a very important part in the type of dress worn and, depending on the look the wearer wishes to go for, the design will vary greatly from one person to the next.

Some types of dresses that may be worn for various occasions are gowns, cocktail dresses, dinner dresses, evening, formal, ballroom and tea gown dresses. These all have varying styles and lengths and are extremely diverse, and it can be rather overwhelming to choose the right dress for the right occasion. Other more specialized dresses include wedding dresses and prom dresses, as these are generally worn only once and they mark a significant point in a female’s life.

For general everyday wear, dresses are normally simple and plain and the hemline is normally extended to just above the knee. They can carry a simple design such as a floral pattern or one color throughout. If you'd like to really make a statement, you can consider an animal stripe dress, such as a leopard print dress or zebra print dress.

Summer will see women wearing brightly colored dresses and skirts with radiant floral designs and are form fitting with extra room below the waist. Dresses in general can carry sleeves, simple spaghetti straps or be totally sleeveless. Once again, this is all depending on the wearer’s personal preference, occasion and the environment.

Each country has they own style of dress. Many countries prefer longer dresses while others are more free spirited and the length does not matter. However, if the climate is cold, dresses will be long and may have sleeves; if not, a jacket might be worn to ward off the cold.

Dresses can be found anywhere clothes are sold and range from kids wear to grown women. Prices also vary greatly and depend on the season that the dress is bought and the brand.

Name brand dresses can be significantly higher than a dress of the same style and design of a lower brand. When buying a dress, it is important to know where you will be wearing it, the occasion and the weather.

Many people will frown at a short dress worn to the wrong occasion and may consider it improper. Also, certain other dresses are only socially acceptable in certain situations. It is best to go with a dress that you would not mind seeing on another person in the same situation. Going that route will make it easier when picking a design.
